Giving Ideas

Do you know that small actions can add up to having a big impact?

When it comes to helping others and giving, every bit helps! You don't have to wait until you have a large amount of money, or a lot of time to lend a helping hand.

What are the different ways you can help?

1. Donate to charitable organizations that help people worldwide or nationwide

These organizations collect donations of money, food, clothes, furniture, and more from all over the world, and they help people in your country as well as people in countries you may not have ever heard of! They help people in different situations, including gathering volunteers quickly when there is a disaster, for example, an earthquake or hurricane!

2. Donate to charitable organizations in your town or city

Sometimes it feels especially good to help people that are our neighbors or live in the same town or city as we do. Many local groups do charitable deeds in various forms, for example, organizing volunteers to clean up a park, to help after a disaster, or to collect food and clothes for people in need. These organizations need money to do some of the good deeds, so they collect donations.

Examples of common local charities

  • Soup kitchens, food banks and food cupboards. These charities help provide food to people in need. Ask your parents to help you find one in your area.

  • Habitat for Humanity. With the help of volunteers, they build homes for people in need.

  • Goodwill stores. They accept donated items, sell them, and use the proceeds to help people in need.

  • Ronald McDonald House. Helps families with sick children.

3. Volunteer your time!

Charitable organizations are always looking for volunteers. Talk to your parents about volunteering as a family activity.
